Resources

In 2013, to support the delivery of Population Health qualifications, CheckUP undertook a thorough analysis of existing trainer and learner resources by reviewing the content against the unit descriptors for each core unit of competency.

A number of opportunities were identified where the development of a supplementary resource would benefit learners, to gain essential knowledge and skills, and trainers, to effectively deliver required content for these units.

The opportunities identified included:

  • the development of supplementary resources to build on general content already available in current learning materials,
  • provision of tools/templates to support key processes for population health approaches,
  • contextualised resource for the health and community services sector, and real life examples demonstrating the application of knowledge into practice.

As a result, Health & Community Services Workforce Council in partnership with CheckUP undertook a project to develop a range of supplementary resources to support delivery of the training package and learning for students for the Certificate IV and Diploma of Population Health. The resources have received industry validation through an experienced and accredited Diploma of Population Health trainer and assessor.

Funding for these resources was provided by the Workforce Council through the Strategic Investment Fund, an initiative of the Queensland Government.

The following resources have been developed:

How would these resources be used?

Trainers may choose to provide these resources as additional supplementary information to support learners understanding and completion of relevant assessments across all core units of competency for both Certificate IV and Diploma of Population Health qualifications.

These resources are also freely available to learners wishing to gain further knowledge and insight into population health practice.

Many of the resources have been specifically contextualised to the health and community services industry however the concepts and theories can be applied across all industries.

These resources are to be used in conjunction with formal learning materials supplied by the registered training organisation to support further learning and understanding of theory and application of population health principles.

Resources can be utilised as part of the delivery of Population Health qualifications as:

  • a complete package of supplementary readings/resources provided to students to support overall learning; or
  • as individual resources for students where additional learning materials may be required for particular units of competency.
