Disability Action Week: Journey towards accessibility and inclusion announced

Disability Action Week is held annually in September with the aim of empowering people with disability, raising awareness of disability issues, and improving access and inclusion throughout the wider community.

With the commencement of the Access for All project, CheckUP is proud to share that it is undergoing its own organisational transformation towards becoming more ‘disability aware’.

Website review

A review of our website is underway with particular focus on ensuring the content, look and feel of the site offers accessibility to all users.

With redevelopment underway, the team is looking at some simple measures to improve the usability of the site, such as ensuring text is easily magnified and content is screen reader friendly through the use of descriptive text and transcripts.

Utilising the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to inform site improvements will ensure the redesign of menus, forms and graphics allow for accessibility.  The new website is scheduled for release by June 2021.

Staff training

All CheckUP staff are completing disability awareness training to ensure team members are increasing their knowledge and skills in the areas of disability awareness, accessibility and inclusion.

Policy review

A review has also been planned for current CheckUP policies to ensure workplace diversity and inclusion principles are embedded in all that we do.
