Choose Your Own Health Career - website now live!
CheckUP’s HEEP Project team have now completed work on a new website to promote health career pathways for students and school leavers: Choose Your Own Health Career (www.cyohealthcareer.com.au).
The website, launched last week by the Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services - The Honourable Steven Miles, promotes a range of health career opportunities from entry level to more senior roles. Focusing upon vocational education and training, the website highlights both clinical and non-clinical fields including Allied Health Assistance, Nursing, Pathology, Mental Health Support, Dental Assisting, Personal Care, Administration and Trades.
In addition to mapping health career paths (or pathways) which detail qualification levels and job outcomes, Choose Your Own Health Career shares the experiences of a number of young Queenslanders who have commenced their careers in the health sector via vocational education and training, many of whom commenced their studies while still at school.
Patient journeys are also included so that users can follow patients from diagnosis to treatment and gain an understanding of the many health and other support staff involved in their care.
The objective of the project was to develop an interactive resource specifically for high school students, parents and those involved in supporting students, including VET Coordinators, Guidance Officers and Career Advisors. Its purpose is to illustrate the diversity of health career opportunities available and to provide guidance to students that may be considering a career in health but are not sure where to start – or whether they have the right skills, capabilities and qualifications.
