CheckUP's new initiatives

With the addition of new staff members comes the addition of new initiatives. We would like to showcase two new initiatives that CheckUP will be leading over the coming years and introduce you to the staff who will be leading these projects.

Gateway to Industry Schools Program (GISP)

CheckUP has been engaged by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) to initiate the Gateway to Industry Schools Program (GISP) for the Health Industry. This program is one of four new priority industries identified in 2020. Newly appointed Business Coordinator Sam Weling will be the key contact at CheckUP for this project.

GISP Health builds partnerships between schools and industry to enable young people to acquire the knowledge, skills and attributes to participate effectively in the health workforce and provides opportunities for health organisations and the education sector to collaboratively deliver locally targeted outcomes for students, communities and service providers. The program will create experiential learning and vocational training opportunities for Queensland’s school students to bridge their way to employment and further education.

Industry Skills Advisors (ISAs)

In addition to GISP, CheckUP also been engaged by DESBT as the Industry Skills Advisor for Health. Industry Skills Advisors (ISAs) will engage with employers, small business and industry stakeholders to provide high-quality, evidence-industry advice and intelligence about current and emerging industry direction, regional skills needs, training solutions and employment opportunities.

This is an exciting new and important role for CheckUP as it will provide opportunities for us to engage with our stakeholders to identify training and skills priorities, and inform investment settings for the health industry.  The ISA aligns with Skills for Queensland – Great training for quality jobs the Queensland Government’s plan to secure our future prosperity through a skilled and adaptive workforce.

Vicky Meyer will be the key contact for this project.  If you wish to find out more information or are interested in how you can connect with program contact Vicky at vmeyer@checkup.org.au.
